Kids Athletics | Athletics/Track & Field

Lausanne, Le Mont-sur-Lausanne in Switzerland

A physically skilled young generation

Kids Athletics wants to educate and involve new generations into sports programs which serve as prevention and cure for the effects of modern society conditions. Long hours of sitting at school desks and computers are the main factor for developing wrong postures at young age, thus bringing health consequences further on in life.

The sport programs focus on building stable foundations of movement coordination, balance, flexibility, speed and endurance. Kids learn, appropriate to their age, basic and natural movement patterns through athletic events and many other sports.

The founder of Kids Athletics, Slaven Dizdarevic, is an Olympian decathlete, who has many years of experience working with children. After his career, he transitioned into art as a painter/photographer which is his main passion.

International School of Lausanne, Chemin de la Grangette 2, 1052 Le Mont-sur-Lausanne

Since the year 2014 Kids Athletics Camps, designed and organized by Slaven, an Olympian decathlete, focus on creative sports programs. In 2018 a new method combining sport and art activities has been introduced. It brings more focus and concentration, higher interest in sports and better group dynamics.

Why combine sports and arts? By the age of 7, kids use their imagination enormously. Art activities like painting tap into an individual creativity and encourage processes of the right part of the brain. Kids become more relaxed and present, keep in good touch with their intuition and become sensitive to their bodies. In combination with their traditional sports program, Kids Athletics makes it all more magic.

How to combine sports and arts? By using their sports programs and individual approach to each of the groups together with painting and sculpture activities. They will practice movements of running, jumping and throwing using different sports activities with little competitive touch to it. In other words, art is their spice.

Up to 12 kids aged 7-11 of any skill level, are accepted per camp, which is taught primarily in English, making it a great opportunity for non-English speakers to learn/improve their English in a non-traditional environment.

Each day begins at 8:45 at the International School of Lausanne and ends at noon. In case of good weather conditions, they spend some time outdoors and get fresh air while practicing sport at the football pitch.

My daughter loved this camp and is already looking forward to participating again next summer! The variation of running, climbing, swimming, long jump, javelin, discus, and even painting kept her engaged and excited to return each day. Slaven coaches in a positive and encouraging way, which sets the tone for the whole group. Well done!

The approach in this camp to developing an appreciation of sport generally as well as a respect for other participants/athletes was professional, well thought-through/executed - and made a lasting impression on my son. He developed a team spirit in what are perceived as individual sports, and I dare say, probably more than most team sport experiences... They tried out so much, not just physically (balance/coordination etc. - I have now been the recipient of how to balance on my arms only...), attitude, experience - go for it, "see what you can do". My lasting memory, if I have to pick one, will be pick-up on the last day, when the kids sat huddled around one of the older participants chatting, and not wanting to leave. Needless to say, will go back.
