Mind Your Body

Pilates is a unique system of stretching, lengthening and strengthening exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900s. The exercises can be executed on a mat or on the machines. Also called “the art of contrology”, it highlights the unique approach of using the mind to master the muscles so that the mind and body are working together to achieve overall fitness.

The Pilates method was designed to work directly with the deepest muscles around the stomach, hips, lower back and buttocks thereby creating a strong center or powerhouse. A strong powerhouse is essential in maintaining good posture and body alignment. By working muscles simultaneously and never in isolation, the exercises reinforce muscles that are weak and relax those that are tense. In this way Pilates strengthens, lengthens and realigns the muscles resulting in a more streamlined body shape and increased flexibility.

Esther Meerman, the woman behind Mind your Body, prepares the courses carefully, taking into account physical ability, mobility and expectations. She works together with her adult clients to gradually achieve a more flexible and toned body as well as a healthy balance between mind and body.

Classes can be given in English, French, or Dutch.
