Yoga is a lifestyle, a philosophy of Indian origin, for body and mind. Through practice one works and applies personal and universal ethical codes. Yoga is for any woman, man, whatever its origin. There is only one yoga but different schools. The father of yoga, Patanjali, codified this ancient tradition in Yoga Sutras. In four chapters he describes study and personal transformation in the form of 196 aphorisms. Yoga touches the body's anatomical work and provides structure and alignment. Just as a car could not roll without proper alignment of its wheels, the body can not function physically, physiologically, mentally and emotionally if there is no alignment.

B.K.S. Iyengar (14.12.1918 - 20.08.2014) adapted this tradition to the contemporary world. He developed a structured method of postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama). He occasionally uses supports such as straps, chairs, wooden bricks, blankets, which allows everyone, flexible or less flexible, to practice safely and evolve.

During a session postures are proposed that stimulate and calm, standing, sitting, inverted and back as well as breathing exercises and relaxation. Postural practice and the application of breathing exercises in a regular and disciplined way will reveal the peace and inner light that each of us is looking for at one time or another. The benefits will be visible; a stronger and more supple body, a more stable mind. The calm and concentration that the practice brings helps to cope with the daily life and stress of our time.

Ingrid Myriam Balles, certificated teacher by the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India (Junior II level in 2012), was born in Schaffhausen in 1965. It was in 1999 during a long stay in South Africa that she discovered yoga. She waited for her return to Switzerland in 2000 to engage in the practice.In 2005, she left her career in event marketing to devote herself to yoga and teaching. She continues to train and attend courses with renowned teachers internationally as Christian Pisano in Nice, Jaki Nett USA, Fa'eq and Corine Biria in Paris and studies with teachers Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Institute in Pune, India.Since 2011 Ingrid is President of the Swiss Iyengar Yoga Association.
